Family Law:

The end of a relationship may be sad for some or joyous for others, but for all the end of a marriage brings the need to protect important rights and interests and clearly establish the relationship between former spouses and their children into the future. Our comprehensive Texas family law practice includes both contested and uncontested divorces, as well as modifications of child custody or support orders due to changed circumstances.

  • Uncontested Divorce – Also known as a mutual divorce or an agreed divorce, an uncontested divorce in Texas can save you time, money, headache and heartache. An uncontested divorce may be had when the divorcing couple can agree on the terms of their divorce, or when one spouse fails to file a response after being served with a petition for divorce. We provide guidance and assistance throughout the process for an uncontested divorce, include working out custody and support arrangements and property division, and drawing up all necessary court papers and agreements. It’s okay to start an uncontested divorce with some disagreement on the issues; you have 60 days to iron them out. We’ll help you stay on track and keep an uncontested divorce from taking an undesirable and unnecessary turn.

  • Contested Divorce - If you and your spouse can’t agree on the terms of your divorce, that’s okay too, and it’s certainly understandable. The procedure for a contested divorce involves generating the required documents and disclosures, gathering evidence and testimony, and putting together a strong case that makes your interests clear. We make sure you are adequately represented in the division of marital property, payment or receipt of alimony and child support, and in the determination of child custody, including appropriate visitation for the non-custodial parent.

  • Child Custody and Support Modifications – In either a contested or uncontested divorce, former spouses with children together exit the relationship with detailed court orders dictating child custody and visitation (managing conservatorship and possessory conservatorship) and the payment and receipt of child support. Of course, circumstances can change, and if the change is substantial, it may be necessary to return to court for a modification of those court orders, even years after the divorce is final. We represent parents seeking or challenging proposed modifications of custody and support due to factors such as a job loss, parental relocation, a substantial change in income or a change in the child’s needs.
